Mr. Anderson has worked in health care for over twenty-five years. For over twelve years he has been actively involved in the medical interpreting field as Special Services Manager for Kaiser Permanente NW. Mr. Anderson was responsible for the development, implementation and management of Kaiser’s regional medical interpreting program and developed a first of its kind prospective payment contact for interpreter services, which lead to improved service levels. He advocated and developed quality improvement criteria that helped assure improved levels of access and service to Limited English Proficient patients.
Mike Anderson holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in health education and a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration from Portland State University.
Mr. Anderson is on the Board of Directors of the National Council on Interpretation in Health Care and co-chairs its Policy and Research Committee. He has long been interested in promoting research and is instrumental in developing research initiatives in medical interpreting. In addition he coordinated and developed a position paper titled, Linguistically Appropriate Access and Services; An Evaluation and Review for Healthcare Organizations. He is also a member of the National LEP task force and the NLEP health care committee. Mike is a recognized National advocate for medical interpreting and the development and application of standards for interpreting in health care.
