LEP Task Force Participant

Jodie Berger is the Project Director of the Welfare-to-Work Advocacy Project of the Legal Aid Society-Employment Law Center. The project enforces employment law and civil rights for participants in welfare-to-work programs. At this job, and prior legal services positions, Jodie has worked to improve language access for LEP individuals when interacting with Social Service programs. Jodie was part of the workgroup that drafted the two state instructional letters on serving LEP individuals in CA's TANF program, and on the State Civil Rights workgroup that overhauled the requirements for county annual civil rights reports and the state monitoring and compliance process. Jodie has been counsel on several language access civil rights complaints, and has presented seminars on the issue at various conferences.
